Report from the Kiel Institute: New Construction Would Curb Rents in Berlin More Effectively Than Expropriations
The nationalization of large housing corporations in Berlin would not alleviate the shortage of affordable housing; rather, it would actually exacerbate it. Investing that same amount—in the billions—in new construction, on the other hand, could create up to 71,000 new apartments by 2045 and thus significantly curb the rise in rents.
