Closing event for the 2024 VBKI mentoring cohort

Text: Philipp Zettl | Policy Officer

For 9 months, 30 mentors met with their mentees at regular intervals to discuss questions about career planning, negotiation techniques and much more. At the end of the 2024 year of the VBKI mentoring program, everyone came together once again to take stock and look ahead. VBKI Managing Director Ute Weiland thanked Tina Bünsow, Jörg Förstenberg and Britta Posner, the initiators and coordinators of the program, to thunderous applause from the participants.

All participants agreed: mentoring is not a one-way street, but an exchange of experience and knowledge on an equal footing. It not only requires a lot of time, but also trust and openness - on both sides. The feedback in the evening showed that all participants had generously shared this with each other and will continue to do so. Many tandems want to continue meeting each other after the end of the program - a sign of how well the matching of the tandems worked with the help of the questionnaire. An anecdote in passing: the mentoring teams didn't just talk about work and career-related topics. One tandem once went axe throwing, another even published a book!

Finally, the closing event also looked to the future. The mentoring program will enter the next round in January. Ideas for advertising campaigns were collected in small groups, resulting in several posters and a short film by the end of the evening. Events have been planned for the alumni from now on, including a visit to the Boros Collection, a joint lunch date and much more.
