VBKI auction gala "We for Berlin" raises 800,000 euros

800,000 euros for a good cause - that is the fantastic result of the fourth VBKI auction gala "We for Berlin".

At the invitation of the VBKI, around 150 invited guests came to Deep - Prenzlauer Berg - last Monday evening to bid on 30 extraordinary lots under the direction of auctioneer Kilian von Seldeneck: Works by artists Bernar Venet, Michael Wesely, Tony Cragg, David Schnell, Mia Florentine Weiss and Andreas Mühe, among others, went under the hammer. A pair of boxing gloves - personally signed by the Klitschko brothers - and a Mercedes EQE 350+ also changed hands.

In his welcoming address, VBKI President Markus Voigtwarned against social division in the face of the energy crisis and inflation: "We are all called upon to do something! Berlin needs - now more than ever - a lively, committed and responsible urban society. The result of the evening is all the more magnificent. The name of our auction gala - "We for Berlin" - is not just a phrase, but an expression of how we see ourselves. We all take an active interest in the development of our city and are always actively committed to its future. I think that is also in our nature: We are entrepreneurs, we are not underachievers."

The patron of the evening, Berlin's Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey, said in her welcoming address: "Berlin's business community is working hard beyond its core business to promote good coexistence in our city and equal opportunities for all. The VBKI auction gala is a good example of this. Today, the proceeds are being used to support important initiatives for Berlin: For example, the employment of people with a history of flight and migration, the emergency aid project 'Hier spielt die Musik' for Berlin musicians who have fallen into economic hardship due to the corona pandemic or Berliner Lesepaten, which promotes reading and learning skills, especially among disadvantaged children. My heartfelt thanks for this commitment."

The proceeds from the evening will go towards VBKI's charitable projects such as the refugee initiative "Einstieg zum Aufstieg", the educational project "Berliner Lesepaten" and the "Sport macht Schule" initiative. On the other hand, projects outside the VBKI will be supported: the Malteser Hilfsdienst (medicine for people without health insurance), the Land in Sicht association, which is committed to open-mindedness and democratic and social ways of thinking in rural areas, and "Wirtschaft kann Kinder", an initiative that campaigns for more equal opportunities for children.
