VBKI goes Velodrom: 20 cycling-enthusiastic VBKI members test their track cycling skills
Text: Sebastian Thomas | Head of Communication and Marketing VBKI
No brakes, no freewheel. It takes a bit of courage to step on the gas on a classic track bike. Especially when it's a completely new experience. Around 20 VBKI members with a passion for cycling took the opportunity to personally "put their wheels to the test" on the 250 meters of Siberian spruce in the traditional Berlin Velodrom.
VBKI Managing Director Ute Weiland, Velodrom Managing Director and Chairman of the VBKI Sports Committee Sebastian Rüß and Claudiu Ciurea, President of the Berlin Cycling Federation, welcomed the participants to the exclusive event. Afterwards, the participants pedaled under the guidance of expert trainers. Robert Förstemann had some very special tips and tricks from professional cycling at the ready. The world and European champion and Olympic bronze medalist took the 20 amateurs under his wing.

The result for everyone involved: a fortunately accident-free once-in-a-lifetime experience, as can be seen from the euphoric faces and the odd drop of sweat on the forehead. In the throes of speed! It's hard to believe that the pros ride at an average speed of 60 km/h for an hour during training. And since practice is one thing, but theory is another, there was a quiz at the end with questions about the world of track cycling. Three lucky winners were delighted to receive 2 free tickets each for the 111th SIX DAY Berlin from January 25 to 27.
