Kids fit for Europe: Friendship connects

Kids fit for Europe

Friendship connects - young writing spirit at the SESB competition

Text: Annette Kusche | Policy Officer

This year, the VBKI once again became a meeting place for creative young authors: our traditional writing competition "Kids fit for Europe" entered its 24th round - and this time everything revolved around the moving topic "True friendship is...".

28 pupils from grades 6, 8, 10 and 11 of the Staatliche Europa-Schulen Berlin (SESB ) were honored for their impressive contributions. Whether in the form of poems, short stories or essays - the young talents approached the topic in many different and often very personal ways. Particularly impressive: many of the texts were written in the partner language!

At the award ceremony, VBKI Managing Director Ute Weiland emphasized how important friendship is as a unifying force in Europe and the world - especially in times when cohesion and understanding are more important than ever.

In his speech, Dr. Mark Hamprecht from the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family emphasized the importance of cultural diversity and shared values for strong coexistence.

The prizewinners' contributions were moving, touching - and thought-provoking. Some talked about cross-border friendships, others about the importance of trust, loyalty and mutual support in everyday life.

Congratulations to all participants - and a big thank you for your words, thoughts and stories!
