304,000 euros in donations - that is the fantastic result of a fundraising dinner organized by the VBKI together with Life Bridge Ukraine to benefit the "Berlin-Kyiv Prosthesis Centre" twinning project. In the presence of the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, and the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, around 50 guests from the ranks of the VBKI and the Circle of Friends of Life Bridge Ukraine came together at the Berlin Capital Club to send out a signal of solidarity with the victims of the war in Ukraine and to provide concrete help. The donations raised will be used to equip the first prosthesis center in the municipal hospital No. 12 in Kyiv.

VBKI President Markus Voigt said: "The brutal Russian war of aggression is causing immeasurable suffering and fundamentally changing the lives and everyday lives of all people in Ukraine. It was important to us to send out a signal of hope and to make a lasting contribution to better care for the war-disabled - including many children and young people - in Kyiv. We are all the more pleased that our appeal for donations has fallen on such fertile ground and that the proceeds from the evening will pave the way for the prosthesis center."

The number of amputees in Ukraine is estimated to be between 30,000 and 50,000. The immense need is offset by a shortage of well-trained orthopaedic technicians and modern orthopaedic technology. The Berlin-based aid organization "Life Bridge Ukraine" was founded by Dr. Janine von Wolfersdorff to enable the establishment and operation of the first municipal prosthesis workshop in Kyiv and to meet the urgent need for orthopaedic and medical care locally. The project is supported by medical institutions such as the Bundeswehr Hospital Berlin, leading Berlin-based master orthopaedic technology companies and private donors. The Berlin Senate supports the "Prosthesis Center Berlin-Kyiv" as part of the city partnership with Kyiv.
