VBKI I ENGAGEMENT

Sport macht Schule

We keep Berlin's children and young people on their toes

The VBKI wants to make exercise fun for children and young people at an early age. Under the motto "Sport macht Schule", we therefore organize twelve sports action days a year at various Berlin schools.

School sport is good for pupils' health and physical development. Sport promotes a willingness to perform, make an effort and take risks, and requires consideration, helpfulness and fairness. This is why the VBKI and its strong partners organize twelve sports action days at schools in all Berlin districts under the heading "Sport macht Schule". The non-profit project, founded in 2013, is under the patronage of European basketball champion and Alba vice-chairman Henning Harnisch.

"Team spirit, motivation, a sense of responsibility: sport and business have a lot in common."

Kaweh Niroomand, member of the VBKI Executive Committee and manager of the German volleyball champions and cup winners BR Volleys: "Team spirit, motivation, a sense of responsibility: sport and business have a lot in common. The VBKI is therefore committed to Berlin sport in a variety of ways. In addition to supporting top athletes, school and popular sports are also very important to us. Together with the Landessportbund Berlin, we help to ensure that sport, exercise and the joy of playing are highly valued in Berlin schools."

At "Sport macht Schule", schoolchildren are given the opportunity to try out a wide variety of sports. A climbing tower, an inline skate course, a streetball station, a BMX skills course, street dance and a goal-kicking facility are all set up on the school grounds. Around 6,000 pupils are supported by the project led by Matthias Mikolajski-Kusche every year.

"Sport macht Schule" is a project of the VBKI in cooperation with the State Sports Association (LSB) and the Society for Sports and Youth Social Work (GSJ), the official health partner AOK Nordost and Berliner Sparkasse. Additional sports activities are provided by the girls' sports center "Centre Talma" and AOK Nordost. The VBKI is also financing 120 annual memberships at sports clubs for the twelve participating schools.
