Kaweh Niroomand receives the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany
Long-standing VBKI Executive Committee member honored for outstanding commitment
A great honor and well-deserved award for Kaweh Niroomand: the long-standing member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Berlin Merchants and Industrialists (VBKI) has received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. The award was presented by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Palace on the Day of Honorary Service on December 4.
The citation stated: "Kaweh Niroomand came to Germany as a teenager and quickly discovered his passion for volleyball. After his active career, he took over the coaching position and later also the management of the men's Bundesliga team of Sport-Club Charlottenburg, since 2011 Berlin Recycling Volleys (BRV). He developed the BRV into one of the most successful volleyball teams in Germany. Kaweh Niroomand is aware that sport has a role model function and assumes social responsibility with his club. Not only are values such as respect and equality lived and promoted there, but the club also supports various projects and institutions such as the Berlin Heart Center, a Vivantes addiction clinic and the station mission. Kaweh Niroomand is also the spokesman for the Berlin Professional Clubs Initiative and a founding member of Sportmetropole Berlin and was Vice President of the DOSB for several years."
Kaweh Niroomand is also committed to sport as part of his voluntary work at the VBKI. Among other things, his name is closely associated with the non-profit VBKI project "Sport macht Schule", which teaches children and young people in Berlin to enjoy exercise as part of so-called "sports action days".
In addition to Kaweh Niroomand, 16 other citizens were honored for their outstanding commitment to popular sports and the preservation of club structures in rural areas.
