"Anyone who wants to expropriate private property in this city is putting our future at risk."

VBKI President Prof. Harald Christ commented on the election results in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as follows: “Another disastrous election Sunday for the political center in Germany: The Left wins in Berlin, and the AfD in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Following Saxony-Anhalt, this election night confirms a sobering trend: The political fringes continue to gain ground, and the scope for pragmatic solutions is shrinking. For the first time in the history of the Federal Republic, the CDU is not represented in a state parliament (Schwerin), and in Berlin, pro-Russian parties together account for over 40 percent of the vote. All in all, this is a serious setback for the project of making Germany future-proof economically, socially, and in terms of security policy.”
Berlin urgently needs a stable and effective government right now. Housing construction, reducing bureaucracy, an efficient administration, and better education cannot be put off. As things stand, there are majorities in the capital both with and without the participation of The Left. For us, one thing is clear: Anyone who does not unequivocally distance themselves from anti-Semitism should not assume government responsibility in Germany. And anyone who wants to expropriate private property in this city is putting our future at risk.
"Our heavily indebted city needs private capital for housing, infrastructure, and jobs. Berlin’s business community expects the future Senate to provide a reliable regulatory framework, sound finances, enhanced public safety, and a clear commitment to growth and investment. Berlin cannot shape its future in opposition to the business community—but only in partnership with it."
